A high-level roundtable discussion held at the UN House in Abuja, where FAO Nigeria, in collaboration with the Borno State Ministry of Health and Human Services, engaged key stakeholders to scale up the Tom Brown initiative in Borno State.

Tom Brown, a nutrient-dense food made from locally available ingredients, has shown remarkable success in reducing malnutrition by 35% among children.

The initiative targets the most vulnerable—pregnant and breastfeeding women, adolescent girls, and children under five.

The discussion aims to develop a roadmap for implementation, certification, and monitoring, with a long-term goal of establishing a Tom Brown production factory in Borno State.

This move is expected to not only combat malnutrition but also create jobs, boost local markets, and strengthen food security.

FAO Nigeria Representative, Mr. Koffy Dominique, stressed the urgency of scaling up Tom Brown production in North East Nigeria, highlighting its potential to save lives, empower women, and drive sustainable development.

Dignitaries in attendance include the Governor of Borno State, representatives from the Federal Ministries of Health and Agriculture, the UN, the European Union, and international humanitarian organisations.
