In a bid to enhance healthcare delivery in Nigeria, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has partnered with the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO), Canada, to launch the Best Practice Spotlight Organisation (BPSO) initiative.
Speaking at the launch in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary, Daju Kachollom, represented by Pharmacist Olubunmi Aribeana, emphasised the significance of the collaboration, noting that Nigeria is the first African nation to host the BPSO initiative.
This milestone reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the nursing profession and improving population health outcomes.
The initiative, which will pilot in 15 Federal Tertiary Health Institutions across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, aims to train and mentor nurses to adopt evidence-based, culturally sensitive, and patient-centered practices.
“Nurses will now deliver care aligned with the highest standards, contributing to the Coordinating Minister’s four-point health agenda and the global Sustainable Development Goals,” Kachollom noted.
The Director of Hospital Services, Dr. Salaudeen Jimoh, outlined the four-day training programmes accompanying the launch, which will focus on equipping healthcare teams with tools to tackle evolving challenges in healthcare delivery.
The CEO of RNAO, Dr. Doris Grinspun, who signed the Memorandum of Understanding, described the partnership as a platform for cultural exchange and professional growth.
The initiative marks a significant step in transforming Nigeria’s healthcare system to prioritise quality, innovation, and global best practices.
