China and Nigeria Strengthen Ties Through Civilizational Exchange

China has described civilizational exchange as a foundation for fostering people-to-people relations and driving national development.
Speaking at a seminar in Abuja themed “Civilizational Exchange and Mutual Learning between China and Nigeria,” the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, highlighted the role of cultural and educational partnerships in deepening bilateral ties.
He noted that during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent visit to China, the two nations elevated their relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, with people-to-people exchange being a vital pillar.
The Ambassador also revealed plans to establish a Confucius Institute at the University of Abuja, in collaboration with Chinese universities, to further promote cultural and educational exchange.
The Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, Mallam Jibrin Baba-Ndace, in a keynote address, underscored the role of media in fostering public and cultural diplomacy.
He pledged VON’s commitment to amplifying Nigeria-China relations, emphasising that mutual understanding and respect are critical to national progress.
Professor Sherrif Ibrahim of the University of Abuja said tolerance is a key lesson for mutual learning.
He urged both nations to draw from each other’s strengths, emphasizing that mutual tolerance could prevent conflicts and foster global peace.
The organisers of the seminar, are optimistic it will yield the desired result.
The seminar, which featured diplomatic presentations and cultural performances, provided a platform for exploring how collaboration and mutual respect can strengthen development and international relations.
