Military Achieves Key Victories In Ongoing Operations, Urges Citizens to Prioritise Security

Defence Headquarters says the military remains resolute in safeguarding the nation, ensuring the sacrifices of fallen heroes are not in vain.
The outgoing Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, in a press briefing said the Armed Forces of Nigeria, showcased significant strides in the ongoing battle against terrorism, insurgency, and oil theft across the country.
Highlighting recent achievements, Buba, emphasised the sacrifices of troops and the unwavering commitment to national security.
He said between January 1 and 16, troops neutralised 156 insurgents, arrested 464 suspects, rescued 181 kidnapped victims and apprehended 29 oil thieves, saving the nation from a potential N623 million loss in stolen resources.
According to him, in the Niger Delta, troops dismantled 46 illegal refining sites and seized 705,294 liters of stolen crude oil alongside weapons and ammunition.
The military also thwarted terrorist infiltration from the Sahelian region, recovering a stockpile of arms and ammunition, including 219 assorted weapons and over 2,800 rounds of ammunition.
Despite occasional setbacks, Major General Buba reaffirmed the military’s resolve to break the terrorists’ will to fight and urged Nigerians to see security as a collective responsibility, stating, “Citizens must not compromise on security, as everyone’s safety depends on it.”
