The Federal Government of Nigeria has reinforced its commitment to making quality healthcare accessible and affordable for Nigerians with the commissioning of state-of-the-art medical facilities at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja.

Speaking during the inauguration of a 64-bed ward extension complex and an ultramodern clinical services building featuring a dedicated renal unit with 18 hemodialysis beds, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako, stated the administration’s determination to curb medical tourism.

According to Dr. Salako these facilities align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda of strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system. “With these additions, our tertiary healthcare system is being bolstered, reducing the need for Nigerians to seek critical healthcare abroad, including kidney transplants,” he stressed.

He also announced that the government’s initiative to lower dialysis costs by 80% across 10 federal health institutions is gaining traction, saying FMC Jabi is poised to join the programme.

The Medical Director of FMC Jabi, Professor Saad Ahmed, affirmed that the facility is not only committed to delivering quality care but also serves as a training hub for medical professionals.

This development is one of the Federal Government’s broader strategy to enhance healthcare, including removal of tariff on pharmaceuticals and expanding health insurance coverage.
