Nigeria, China Strengthen Bilateral Ties As Foreign Ministers Hold High-Level Talks

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has emphasised the enduring friendship between Nigeria and China, underscoring their shared history of cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure, and cultural exchange.
The Minister, who made this assertion while playing host to the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, in his office in Abuja said the pivotal meeting aimed at deepening the robust partnership between the two nations, is an opportunity to explore new avenues for collaboration, particularly in trade facilitation, capacity building, and people-to-people exchanges.
Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the One-China Principle and the agreements signed during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s state visit to China in September 2024.
Speaking, the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, reechoed same sentiments, highlighting the significance of his visit in fostering closer ties and implementing the agreements reached during the FOCAC Beijing meeting.
Wang praised Nigeria’s leadership role in Africa, describing it as a “major African country with global influence and an important member of the global South.”
He also reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s development aspirations, particularly in infrastructure, trade, and investment.
During this visit which marks another milestone in the flourishing Nigeria-China relationship, setting the stage for deeper cooperation and shared prosperity for both nations, Wang is expected to hold high-level talks with Nigerian officials on critical issues such as regional security, economic development, and global diplomacy.
