Nigeria Issues Travel Advisory for Citizens Visiting Australia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advisory for Nigerian nationals planning to visit or reside in Australia, urging caution in light of rising incidents of discrimination and hate crimes.
A recent surge in antisemitic and Islamophobic attacks, including a December 2024 incident in Sydney’s Woollahra suburb where a car was torched and anti-Israel graffiti defaced nearby buildings, highlights growing risks.
These incidents coincide with international tensions, raising concerns about the safety of foreigners in certain areas.
While Australia remains celebrated for its multiculturalism, Nigerian travelers are advised to remain vigilant, adopt necessary precautions, and be mindful of local social dynamics.
A statement signed by the Acting Spokesperson of the Ministry, Kimiebi Ebienfa, urged victims or witnesses of racist attacks to immediately contact the Nigerian High Commission in Canberra at +61262158500 or via email at chancery@nigeria-can.org.au.
This advisory underscores the need for extra awareness to ensure safety while navigating Australia’s complex social landscape.
