INEC Set To Display Physical Register For Claims, Objections

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it will display the physical register at designated centres across the 8,809 Registration Areas (Wards) and 774 Local Government Areas nationwide from Saturday 12th – Friday 25th November 2022.
The Chairman of the Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who disclosed this at the third quarterly meeting with the media for the year 2022 in Abuja appealed to Nigerians to properly scrutinize the physical register.
He said the Commission has rigorously cleaned up the data using the Automated Biometric Identification System, ABIS, since it suspended the Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
According to him, the clean up helped the commission identify various malpractices including ineligible and multiple registrants.
Professor Yakubu, enjoined the public to carefully examine the list to make objections and claims that will enable the commission do the final clean-up of the registered voters for the 2023 General Election.
The INEC boss, who asked the media to continue in the support to counter misinformation and disinformation about the electoral process, assured of the commission’s determination to be transparent so as to reflect the people’s will for the 2023 General Election.
The National President, Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Christopher Isiguzo, who was represented by the National Treasurer, Tony Bamidele, expressed worries over the unprofessional conduct of political parties, saying that they should be guided by the electoral laws so as to enhance the nation’s polity for best practices.
It is exactly 120 days to the 2023 General Election, and the commission said it is working tirelessly to ensure the printing of the remaining PVCs for new voters, those that applied for transfer or replacement of their lost or damaged cards even as citizens are assured of seamless collection of the PVCs as soon as they are available.
