Military Operations: Two Terrorists Killed, 33 Suspects Arrested Nationwide
The military says sustained operations across Nigeria have weakened terrorist and kidnapping networks, with two terrorists killed and 33 suspects arrested in a week-long offensive.
Sustained military pressure on terrorist and criminal networks across Nigeria has forced a number of fighters to surrender, while troops killed two terrorists and arrested 33 suspects in operations conducted between 4 and 10 September
Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, disclosed this on Friday, saying the arrests involved suspected terrorists, informants, spies, logistics suppliers, kidnappers and collaborators.
In the North-east, 17 terrorist fighters and their family members surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in Borno State, citing hunger, harsh living conditions and shortages of basic supplies in their enclaves around the Mandara Mountains.
Troops also rescued a woman and her one-year-old child near Gava in Gwoza Local Government Area.
The woman told troops she had been forced into child marriage by her captors in 2025.
The military said it also disrupted terrorist supply chains, intercepting consignments of pharmaceuticals, veterinary supplies, motorcycle spare parts and other materials allegedly destined for terrorist groups.
In the North-west, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA killed one terrorist during an assault on a suspected hideout in Yantumaki Forest, Katsina State.
Operations in the region also led to the arrest of 12 suspects, the recovery of weapons and motorcycles, and the interception of 300 rounds of ammunition allegedly being transported by a suspected courier.
In the South-south, troops arrested four suspected kidnappers in Edo State and disrupted a ransom collection operation, forcing suspects to abandon their victims and flee.
Meanwhile, Operation UDO KA troops arrested suspects allegedly planning attacks on security agencies in Enugu State and recovered locally fabricated firearms and knives during separate operations in Enugu and Anambra.
Onoja said the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, commended troops for disrupting terrorist networks, arms trafficking and kidnapping operations.
He urged communities, traditional rulers and other members of the public to provide timely information to security agencies, while reaffirming the military’s commitment to conducting operations in line with its rules of engagement, Code of Conduct and international humanitarian law.
