Two young women abducted by terrorists in Zamfara State have regained their freedom following a military clearance operation across Bukkuyum and Anka Local Government Areas.
The victims, identified as 20-year-old Ikilima Sani and 18-year-old Shamsiyya Aliyu, were rescued by troops of the Nigerian Army under Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, during operations targeting suspected terrorist hideouts around the Gizaza axis and Gando Forest.
The operation, led by the Acting Commander of 1 Brigade, Colonel J. Umaru, involved coordinated clearance operations across Guruso, Nassarawa, Barayazaki, Masama Mudi, Tunganyara and Gwashi communities.
Military sources said the advancing troops dislodged suspected terrorists from their hideouts, forcing them to flee as soldiers intensified their operations along the forest corridors.
The two victims were subsequently located and rescued during the clearance operation along the Gando Forest corridor.
The rescue marks another gain in the military’s ongoing campaign to dismantle terrorist networks and curb kidnapping activities in Zamfara State, particularly in forest areas frequently exploited by criminal groups as operational bases.
The Army said troops had continued to maintain a strong presence along key transit routes and suspected criminal corridors through sustained patrols aimed at protecting commuters and residents.
It added that the operations were part of broader efforts to deny terrorists freedom of movement, dismantle their hideouts and restore public confidence in affected communities.
The successful rescue is expected to bring relief to the victims and their families, while reinforcing the military’s determination to sustain pressure on armed groups operating in the North-West.
