Enikanolaiye Urges Religious Tolerance, Backs Stronger Welfare For Nigerian Pilgrims
Religious differences should unite rather than divide Nigerians, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, has said, urging greater tolerance and peaceful coexistence across the country.
Enikanolaiye spoke in Abuja when the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Bishop Stephen Adegbite, paid him a courtesy visit.
The minister said the Federal Government would continue to promote religious harmony and protect the welfare of Nigerians, regardless of their faith.
Using his family as an example of interfaith coexistence, Enikanolaiye said being a Muslim while married to a Christian pastor had never created a barrier in their home.
He also pledged the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s support for the NCPC, stressing that Nigeria’s pilgrimage diplomacy goes beyond consular services to strengthening relations with countries hosting Nigerian pilgrims.
“Our work has gone beyond mere consular duties; it is a diplomatic exercise,” he said.
Adegbite, who also spoke about his Muslim family background, said religion should not be a source of division in Nigeria.
He noted that the NCPC’s mandate extends beyond facilitating pilgrimages to promoting national unity, adding that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration remains committed to peace and religious harmony.
