Police Neutralise Six Terrorists, Rescue Kidnap Victims In Fresh Nationwide Operations

The police have recorded fresh operational gains across several states, including the neutralisation of six suspected terrorists in Anambra, the rescue of three kidnapped victims in Kaduna and the recovery of firearms and explosives in separate operations.

In Anambra State, a joint task force raided a suspected terrorist camp in a dense forest at Amiyi, Ogbaru Local Government Area, on 22 August. Six terrorists were killed during a gun duel, while others fled.

Two pump-action guns, undetonated improvised explosive devices and charms were recovered, with the camps and shrines subsequently destroyed.

In Kaduna, police operatives and local vigilantes rescued three kidnapped victims, including Alhaji Hamza Shuaibu Gimi, during a raid on a suspected kidnappers’ hideout at Gidan Mijin Gwaggo Durum, Makarfi LGA, on 23 August.

A Boxer motorcycle was also recovered as efforts continue to arrest the fleeing suspects.

Meanwhile, in Imo State, three suspected terrorist collaborators were arrested on 21 August.

Police recovered two AK rifles, including an AK-49 allegedly linked to the killing of a Homeland Security Guard and an AK-47 reportedly stolen from Agwa Police Station during an attack in 2022.

Other operations produced arrests and recoveries in Ogun, Cross River, Taraba, Rivers and Nasarawa states.

In Ogun, police recovered a locally fabricated pistol, ammunition and a charm from a suspect, while another operation followed an armed robbery in Soyoye, Abeokuta, where suspects allegedly stole ₦11 million and a Highlander SUV.

Ten suspects were also arrested in Cross River following a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Abini Community.

A locally made pistol, axe, dagger, cult insignia and police-related clothing were among the items recovered.

In Rivers State, one suspect was arrested following an ambush along Amadabo Residence in Finima, while investigations continue into the attack and the whereabouts of other suspects.

The police also recovered an AK-47 in Taraba State following a violent clash at Kashimbilla Bush, Takum LGA, and arrested a suspect over a fatal machete attack in Ajaga Community, Nasarawa State.

In Anambra, a woman was arrested during a stop-and-search operation along the Nkpor-Idiani-Abatete Road after she was found with ₦12 million cash and allegedly failed to satisfactorily explain its source.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, said the various cases remain under investigation by the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments.
