The Nigeria Police Force says it rescued 102 kidnapped victims and arrested 78 high-profile criminal suspects during operations across the country between 17 and 20 August 2026.

The figures were contained in the Force’s weekly operational briefing issued on 21 August under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

The police also recovered 26 prohibited firearms, 268 rounds of live ammunition and 21 vehicles, while 13 armed suspects were neutralised during gun battles with operatives.

Among the major operations, police in Kaduna rescued 75 people abducted after fleeing farmer-herder clashes in Kebbi State, while Benue operatives rescued 13 kidnapped bus passengers from a forest in Amacha.

In the South-east, Anambra police reported a gun battle with armed men in military camouflage, recovering an AK-47 rifle, a pump-action gun and 40 rounds of ammunition.

In Enugu, operatives foiled an abduction and car-snatching operation, rescuing three victims and recovering a stolen Lexus RX350.

The briefing also reported the arrest of suspected members of an IPOB/ESN group in Enugu, the rescue of a kidnapped woman in Ebonyi and the disruption of a bandit ambush in Katsina.

However, the week also recorded a deadly attack in Plateau State, where 24 people were killed in Bin’per community, Mangu Local Government Area.

Police said one suspect was arrested and a coordinated manhunt launched for others.

The Force said operations would continue nationwide to counter threats to public safety and national security.
