Diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the Netherlands have received a fresh boost as Nigeria’s new envoy formally assumed office with a pledge to deepen economic and strategic cooperation between both countries.

Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Dr Mohammed Idris Haidara, has officially commenced his diplomatic assignment after presenting his Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Willem-Alexander at the Noordeinde Palace in The Hague.

During the ceremony held on Wednesday, Ambassador Haidara conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s goodwill to the Dutch monarch and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

He highlighted growing cooperation in agriculture, renewable energy, maritime security and international justice, describing the partnership as one founded on mutual respect and shared interests.

The envoy said his appointment reflects President Tinubu’s determination to deepen diplomatic ties, expand economic collaboration and further strengthen the longstanding friendship between Nigeria and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The ceremony featured full royal honours, including a carriage escort by the Royal Chamberlain and the Royal Netherlands Mounted Police, a military salute, the playing of Nigeria’s national anthem, an inspection of the guard, and a private bilateral meeting between King Willem-Alexander and Ambassador Haidara.
