Troops Foil Mass Abduction Bid In Zamfara, Neutralise Terrorists
As insecurity continues to threaten rural communities in Nigeria’s North-West, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have thwarted an attempted mass abduction in Zamfara State, killing several terrorists and recovering weapons during separate operations in Maru and Kaura Namoda Local Government Areas.
Military sources said troops responded to intelligence on terrorist activities in Kanoma District, Maru LGA, on June 9, 2026.
The troops advanced to Kanoma Hill where they engaged the terrorists in a gun battle, neutralising one of the attackers.
Following the operation, soldiers recovered a rifle loaded with ammunition and two motorcycles suspected to have been used by the terrorists.
In a separate operation in Kungurki Village, Kaura Namoda LGA, troops moved swiftly after receiving reports that terrorists were attempting to abduct villagers.
A fierce exchange of gunfire forced the attackers to flee after suffering casualties. Troops neutralised several terrorists and recovered a locally fabricated rifle, three rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition, four cutlasses and a mobile phone.
Military authorities said the operations form part of ongoing efforts to degrade terrorist networks and improve security across Zamfara and the wider North-West region, reaffirming their commitment to protecting lives and property.
