FANSAN YAMMA Troops Rescue Over 95 Kidnap Victims, Disrupt Terrorist Logistics
More than 95 kidnapped victims have been rescued as troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, backed by the Nigerian Air Force, stepped up operations against terrorist and kidnapping networks across the North-West.
The victims were rescued in a series of operations across Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara States, while several suspected terrorists and logistics operatives were arrested and weapons recovered.
Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, said a major breakthrough occurred in Kebbi State, where an Air Force operation disrupted terrorists moving with a large group of kidnapped victims in Bazama, Sakaba Local Government Area.
The disruption enabled more than 60 victims to escape from their captors.
On the ground, troops rescued three victims along the Dandume-Damari Road in Katsina on September 17, three in Bakura LGA of Zamfara on September 18 and 17 along the Isa-Kwanar axis in Sokoto on September 20.
Seven kidnapped university students were also rescued along the Daye-Malumfashi Road in Katsina on September 21, while five victims, including the Executive Chairman of Bungudu LGA, were rescued at Sekpore Village, Kaura Namoda LGA, Zamfara, on September 24.
Beyond hostage rescue, the troops disrupted suspected terrorist logistics and arms-trafficking networks.
Four suspects were arrested near Illela, Sokoto, on September 20 while allegedly conveying rustled cattle.
In Kaduna, troops recovered a rifle and ammunition after engaging terrorists near the rail line in Kachia LGA and arrested another suspect with a locally fabricated pistol at Awom community.
In Katsina, three suspects were arrested in Faskari LGA while allegedly conveying ₦2.7 million reportedly intended for a suspected terrorist kingpin.
Onoja said the operations reflected sustained efforts by Operation FANSAN YAMMA and its Air Component to rescue victims, disrupt terrorist movements and dismantle the logistics networks sustaining criminal activities across the North-West.
