OPHK Assures North-East Residents Of Safe Eid Celebrations Amid Heightened Security

As millions of Muslims prepare to celebrate Eid El Kabir across Nigeria’s North-East, military authorities have intensified security operations to prevent any disruption by terrorist elements seeking to exploit the festive period.
The Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has assured residents of adequate security arrangements ahead of the 1447AH Eid El Kabir celebrations scheduled for Wednesday, 28 May 2026.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Media Information Officer of OPHK, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the military disclosed that intelligence reports indicated possible isolated attacks by remnants of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists targeting crowded civilian locations through suicide bombings and improvised explosive devices.
To counter the threats, the Command said troops had been strategically deployed to vulnerable areas across the theatre of operations, while surveillance activities, patrols and intelligence monitoring had been significantly intensified.
According to the statement, security forces are also collaborating closely with sister agencies, the Civilian Joint Task Force and community vigilance groups to ensure peaceful celebrations throughout the region.
The military urged residents to remain vigilant during the festivities by avoiding unnecessary large gatherings, reporting suspicious movements or objects, and cooperating fully with security personnel during patrols and screening exercises.
Operation HADIN KAI further appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, media organisations and community stakeholders to support ongoing security efforts by encouraging timely sharing of credible information with security agencies.
The Command reassured the public that troops remain fully prepared and committed to denying terrorists any opportunity to undermine peace during the celebrations.
