Tinubu Elevates Bianca Ojukwu As Foreign Affairs Minister, Vows Stronger Global Push For Nigeria
In a diplomatic landscape where continuity and confidence are key, Nigeria has opted for experience and familiarity by elevating a serving minister to steer its foreign policy.
Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following her appointment as the substantive minister of the ministry.
Until her elevation on April 29, 2026, Odumegwu-Ojukwu served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, a role she assumed in November 2024.
Her appointment was announced while she attended a dinner organised by the ministry to conclude a three-day induction course for Ambassadors and High Commissioners-designate, alongside their spouses.
Addressing the diplomatic corps and ministry officials in what became her first official outing as substantive minister, she thanked the President for the trust reposed in her and called for collective commitment towards projecting a positive global image for Nigeria.
She urged the ambassadors-designate, staff, and management of the ministry to work closely with her in safeguarding Nigeria’s national interests while strengthening its international reputation.
In a statement shared on her X (formerly Twitter) account, Odumegwu-Ojukwu described the appointment as an honour and reaffirmed her commitment to advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives.
She pledged to deepen the implementation of the government’s 4D Foreign Policy priorities under the Renewed Hope Agenda, while reinforcing citizen diplomacy and national interest on the global stage.
Her elevation signals a continuity in Nigeria’s diplomatic direction, with expectations of a more assertive and coordinated foreign policy drive under her leadership.
