A temporary disruption aimed at fixing deeper weaknesses in Nigeria’s power transmission system is set to affect millions across the North-East and parts of the North-Central region.

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has announced a scheduled power outage on the Jos-Gombe 330kV transmission line from 9 April to 22 May 2026, every Thursday to Sunday between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., to allow the installation of Optical Ground Wire fibre optic infrastructure.

The planned outage will affect Plateau, Gombe, Bauchi, Borno, Adamawa, Taraba and Yobe states.

NISO said electricity supply would still be routed through available 132kV lines, but warned that customers may face reduced power supply during the outage window because of network limitations.

According to the operator, the upgrade is designed to improve real-time monitoring, fault detection, load balancing and faster restoration of electricity when faults occur.

NISO apologised for the inconvenience, assuring residents that the project will ultimately improve power reliability and strengthen grid operations across the affected states.
