Rep. Member Anakwe Lists Two-Year Gains, Backs Soludo’s Development Push in Anambra East & West
In riverine communities where one flooded season can erase a year’s hard work, infrastructure is more than concrete, it is survival.
Hon. Peter Anakwe, who represents Anambra East and West in the House of Representatives, has outlined key gains recorded in the last two years, spotlighting road construction, flood mitigation advocacy and social interventions aimed at improving livelihoods across his constituency.
Speaking in Oroma Etiti Anam, Anambra West, the lawmaker described the long-neglected Otuocha-Oroma-Nzam-Ibaji federal road as a lifeline for trade, healthcare access and schooling, noting that sustained legislative engagement has helped revive progress on the project.
He also flagged the completion of the Umudora Anam road as a boost to local mobility.
On recurring floods that devastate farms and homes, Anakwe said he has pursued relief support while pressing for durable solutions, including dredging the River Niger to curb seasonal inundation and unlock economic opportunities in inland waterways and fisheries.
“Emergency relief is vital, but environmental management and river control offer lasting answers,” he noted.
The lawmaker listed constituency projects facilitated under his watch, including school infrastructure upgrades, solar streetlights across all 25 wards, boreholes in Nando, Inoma, Nsugbe and Aguleri, as well as empowerment schemes that provided grants to 90 beneficiaries, 28 motorcycles for youths and laptops to students.
Acknowledging funding constraints and delayed budget releases, Anakwe urged stronger federal-state collaboration to fast-track projects in hard-to-reach communities.
He praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s development drive and appealed for urgent intervention on the Onono-Umuikwu Anam road to improve agricultural evacuation, market access and emergency response in riverine areas.
Reaffirming his commitment to people-centred representation, the lawmaker pledged to keep leveraging legislative platforms and partnerships to attract more development to Anambra East and West.
