Nigeria Needs A Communication Renaissance To Counter False Narratives… Minister Idris

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has called for a communication renaissance in Nigeria, one that promotes truth, unity, and patriotism while challenging false narratives about the country, especially claims that Nigeria violates religious freedom.

Speaking at the opening of the 5th National Advertising Conference 2025 held at the Abuja Continental Hotel, the Minister emphasised that marketing communication professionals have a critical role in shaping both brand and national perception.

“This narrative is false,” Idris declared, referring to accusations of religious intolerance. “Nigeria remains a diverse, dynamic, and resilient nation of hardworking people who coexist peacefully and strive daily to build a better society.”

He commended the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) under the leadership of Dr Olalekan Fadolapo for sustaining the annual conference, which has grown into a key platform for thought leadership and collaboration across the marketing communication ecosystem.

The Minister highlighted that in a world marked by economic headwinds and digital disruption, effective communication remains vital for business growth and nation-building.

He assured that the Ministry would continue partnering with ARCON to ensure the industry thrives within a regulated yet enabling environment.

Earlier, ARCON’s Director General, Dr Olalekan Fadolapo, welcomed delegates and described the conference’s theme, “Marketing Communication:

Transforming Business and Creating Growth in Challenging Times” is both timely and strategic.

He urged participants to embrace innovation, collaboration, and creative storytelling to sustain business resilience and industry growth, noting that “great communication remains one of the most powerful tools for transformation, especially in tough times.”

The three-day event brought together top practitioners, industry leaders, policymakers, and media professionals to explore how creativity, technology, and strategy can drive national and business progress.
