Governor Sule To Receive SWAN National Merit Sports Award, Reaffirms Commitment To Sports Investment
As sports continue to bridge divides and drive economic potentials in Nigeria, Nasarawa State is quietly setting the pace under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule.
Governor Sule, who is set to receive the prestigious Sports Writers’ Association of Nigeria (SWAN) National Merit Sports Award, recognising his administration’s remarkable strides in promoting sports excellence and inclusivity, has confirmed his attendance at the awards ceremony in Abuja.
The governor made this known on Tuesday at the Government House, Lafia, during the official unveiling of kits and trophies for the forthcoming Governor’s Cup Football Tournament.
“Sport is not just for pleasure; it is now business, the world over,” Sule declared, noting that Nasarawa is beginning to reap the rewards of its strategic investments in sports.
He highlighted the achievements of Nasarawa United, who currently top the Nigeria Premier League table, and the Nasarawa Amazons, who recently lifted the Governor Douye Diri Pre-season Cup.
Other teams such as Basira FC, he said, continue to make the state proud across various league levels.
Governor Sule attributed the success to collective effort, applauding the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, the State Football Association, coaches, players, and the media for their shared commitment.
“In Nasarawa State, we have hosted and sponsored several sporting events, trained our athletes and officials, and will continue to welcome genuine partners interested in sports development,” he said.
The governor, who will be honoured at SWAN’s 60th anniversary celebration, expressed excitement about the recognition, saying it symbolises the collaborative spirit that drives the state’s sports growth.
The event, featuring lectures, fundraising, and a novelty football match, will climax on Friday, 31st October, at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, with Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as the Distinguished Guest of Honour.
