WHO Trains 75 Health Workers To Strengthen Emergency Maternal, Newborn Care

For many mothers and newborns, the difference between life and death can come down to how quickly skilled help is available when complications arise.

To strengthen emergency care, the World Health Organisation (WHO), in partnership with the TYDF Foundation, Federal Ministry of Health and State Ministries of Health, has trained 75 frontline health workers in Taraba, Edo and Enugu States in lifesaving Basic and Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC/CEmONC).

The training has also supported 12 health facilities across the three states, equipping health workers with skills to respond more effectively to maternal and newborn emergencies.

Dr Evbomemen Solomon, a medical officer, said the knowledge gained would improve healthcare delivery and contribute to better maternal and newborn outcomes.

The initiative is part of efforts to strengthen frontline health services and reduce preventable maternal and newborn deaths in Nigeria.
