WAFCON 2026: Super Falcons Target Trophy, World Cup Ticket As Nnadozie Warns Against Complacency
Success in African football increasingly demands respect for every opponent, and Nigeria’s Super Falcons are heading into the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations determined not to allow their pedigree become a source of complacency.
Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, says the defending champions will adopt a one-match-at-a-time approach as they pursue the twin objectives of retaining their continental crown and securing a FIFA Women’s World Cup ticket.
The 10-time African champions will face Egypt, Zambia and debutants Malawi in Group C of the tournament, scheduled to take place in Morocco from 26 July to 16 August.
“We will take it one match at a time because we cannot afford to stumble at any stage as a result of over-confidence,” Nnadozie said.
The three-time African Woman Goalkeeper of the Year stressed that the expansion of the tournament to 16 teams would make the competition more intense, warning that there are no longer minnows in African women’s football.
According to her, every team deserves respect, as traditionally less-fancied sides will be eager to cause upsets and prove their growing strength on the continent.
“For us, we know what we are going for: the Cup and the World Cup ticket. It will not be easy, but we are the Super Falcons of Nigeria!” Nnadozie declared.
The tournament will be played in Rabat and Casablanca, with Nigeria hoping to once again underline their dominance of African women’s football.
