Relief As Kidnapped Oyo Pupils, Teachers Regain Freedom
The rescue of kidnapped schoolchildren and their teachers in Oyo State has brought much-needed relief to families and residents amid persistent concerns over the safety of schools and communities across Nigeria.
The victims, abducted by gunmen in Orire Local Government Area of the state, regained their freedom following efforts by security agencies.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the development on Friday in a post on his verified X account.
“Finally, all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been rescued by our security agencies,” Onanuga wrote.
Details of the operation leading to their release were not immediately disclosed, while authorities have yet to clarify whether any arrests were made.
The rescue has, however, eased anxiety among families and residents who had expressed concern over the safety of the victims following their abduction.
The incident had renewed concerns over attacks on schools and kidnapping across the country, with stakeholders calling for sustained security operations and stronger measures to protect vulnerable communities.
Further details are expected from security agencies as investigations continue into the abduction and efforts to apprehend those responsible.
