Recognising the critical role of traditional institutions in grassroots security and intelligence gathering, the Enugu State Police Command has moved to deepen collaboration with traditional rulers in the fight against crime across the state.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, gave the assurance during a courtesy and stakeholders’ engagement visit to the leadership of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council at the House of Chiefs, Enugu State House of Assembly Complex.

Giwa described traditional rulers as indispensable partners in community policing, citing their closeness to residents and understanding of security dynamics within their communities.

He pledged that the Command would continue to leverage their support in intelligence gathering, crime prevention, conflict resolution and the prompt reporting of suspicious activities.

Responding, Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Igwe Samuel Okechukwu Asadu, commended the police commissioner’s leadership and efforts to combat crime and improve public safety.

Describing Giwa as “God-sent”, the traditional rulers offered him their royal blessings and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting police initiatives aimed at promoting peace and security across Enugu State.

The engagement forms part of efforts by the Enugu State Police Command to strengthen community policing, build public trust and enhance proactive crime prevention.
