Troops Arrest Two Suspected Terrorist Collaborators At Zamfara Checkpoint
A routine checkpoint stop has dealt another blow to terrorist support networks in Nigeria’s North-West, with troops intercepting two suspected collaborators whose mobile devices allegedly contained incriminating digital evidence.
Troops of the 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have arrested two suspected terrorist collaborators during a routine stop-and-search operation at a military checkpoint in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The suspects were intercepted at about 11:49 p.m. on 26 June at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Jangeme checkpoint after troops became suspicious of their behaviour during routine security screening.
Military sources said preliminary investigations suggest the suspects maintained links with terrorist groups operating in parts of Zamfara.
An initial forensic examination of their mobile phones reportedly uncovered images and digital materials believed to be connected to terrorist activities.
Troops recovered one motorcycle and two mobile phones from the suspects.
The devices have been retained for further digital analysis as intelligence operatives work to identify additional collaborators and possible links to terrorist cells across the North-West.
The military said the arrest forms part of ongoing intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling terrorist support networks by targeting informants, logistics providers and other collaborators who aid armed groups in the region.
