Police Launch Health Campaign To Curb Sudden Deaths Among Officers
Recognising that a healthy police workforce is critical to effective law enforcement, the Nigeria Police Force has launched a major health awareness campaign aimed at tackling silent medical conditions linked to sudden collapse and death among personnel.
The Director of Force Medical Services, AIG Nkechi Ifeoma Eze, flagged off the “Know Your Number” Campaign at the Kwara State Police Command on Tuesday, urging officers to prioritise regular health checks and preventive healthcare.
The initiative, which aligns with the welfare agenda of the Inspector General Of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, focuses on early detection and management of common but often undiagnosed conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and prostate cancer.
Speaking during health sensitisation sessions, AIG Eze warned that many of these illnesses remain silent until they become life-threatening, stressing that routine screening could save lives and improve operational effectiveness.
As part of the programme, medical teams conducted free health screenings for officers, including blood pressure and blood sugar tests, while encouraging personnel to monitor key health indicators and seek timely medical attention.
The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, commended the Inspector-General and the Force Medical Services Department for extending the initiative to the state, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to programmes that enhance officers’ welfare, wellbeing and professional efficiency.
