TCN Boss Promises Stronger Power Grid, Better Electricity Delivery In Second Term
Nigeria’s fragile power supply remains one of the biggest concerns for citizens, and the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Engr. (Dr.) Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, says his second term will focus on turning infrastructure growth into stable and reliable electricity for Nigerians.
Speaking during his first Town Hall Meeting with staff at the TCN Corporate Headquarters in Abuja after his reappointment by President Bola Tinubu for another five-year term, Abdulaziz described the renewed mandate as a call to greater responsibility under the Renewed Hope Agenda for the power sector.
He pledged a results-driven administration aimed at improving bulk power delivery and strengthening Nigeria’s transmission network to make it more viable, reliable, and beneficial to all.
According to him, TCN’s grid wheeling capacity has grown from about 5,000 megawatts in 2015 to over 8,700 megawatts, driven by sustained investment in infrastructure, including transformers and major 330kV and 132kV projects nationwide.
He revealed that more than 82 transformers were installed within 23 months, with 15 high-capacity 300MVA transformers deployed in key stations including Katampe, Ikeja West, Osogbo, Gombe, Benin and Abuja during the second half of 2025 alone.
Abdulaziz said donor-funded programmes supported by the World Bank, African Development Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency, and Agence Française de Développement have also helped strengthen the national grid.
He praised TCN staff and union leaders for their commitment, stressing that the company’s progress was made possible through teamwork, resilience, and technical expertise.
“Our goal is simple, to work together as partners in driving growth, stability and success, while ensuring Nigerians enjoy stable, reliable and consistent electricity supply,” he said.
