Tinubu Deploys 65 Ambassadors, Sends Reno Omokri To Mexico, Fani-Kayode To Germany

In a move seen as part of a renewed push to strengthen Nigeria’s global diplomatic footprint, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the deployment of 65 ambassadors to foreign missions across the world.

Among the prominent appointments, former presidential aide Reno Omokri has been posted to Mexico, while former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to Germany.

The list, released on Friday, includes a mix of career diplomats and political appointees whose nominations had earlier been confirmed by the Senate.

Also on the list is former Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole, who will represent Nigeria in Canada, while former Minister of Interior, Lt-Gen Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd), has been assigned to China.

Businessman and politician Jimoh Ibrahim was named Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, while former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Lateef Kayode Are, will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to the United States.

The Presidency said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has begun the process of securing agrément, the formal approval required from host countries before ambassadors assume duty.

Officials disclosed that some countries have already granted preliminary approval, while others are expected to conclude the process in the coming weeks.

The ambassadors-designate are also expected to undergo an induction programme organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before departing for their respective missions.

The deployment is expected to fill several diplomatic vacancies and support the Tinubu administration’s focus on economic diplomacy aimed at attracting investment, expanding trade and strengthening Nigeria’s global partnerships.
