IGP Deploys CP Abayomi Shogunle To Lead Election Security In Anambra

In a strategic move to strengthen security ahead of the November 8 Anambra Governorship Election, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has deployed CP Abayomi Shogunle, as the new Commissioner of Police for Anambra State.

The posting, according to the Anambra State Police Command, aligns with the IGP’s operational framework to ensure a peaceful, credible, and transparent electoral process across the State.

Upon assumption of duty, CP Shogunle immediately activated the IGP’s Enforcement Protocol against electoral offences, pledging zero tolerance for ballot snatching, vote-buying, political thuggery, and voter intimidation.

He also strengthened the Electoral Offences Desk to monitor online spaces for cyber-related electoral crimes.

The new police chief announced the deployment of over 60,000 security personnel drawn from agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) to secure all 5,720 polling units, inter-LGA boundaries, and collation centres.

He further emphasised a total ban on vigilante and quasi-security groups such as Agunechemba, stressing that only federal security agencies are authorised to perform election security duties.

VIPs were also warned against moving with armed escorts or security aides around polling or collation centres.

CP Shogunle urged political parties, community leaders, and citizens to collaborate with security agencies to sustain peace before, during, and after the polls.

For emergency contact, the Commissioner can be reached on 0809-600-0079.
