After Healing Thousands, Anambra Ecumenical Centre Cries Out For Support To Shelter The Vulnerable

For ten days, hope replaced despair in Aguleri as the sick found healing, the weak found strength, and the forgotten felt remembered.

But as the curtains close on a life-changing medical outreach, a new and urgent appeal has emerged, a call to build permanent shelter for the disabled, aged and vulnerable.

The ten-day Free Medical Outreach organised by the Anambra Ecumenical Centre, Aguleri, has officially ended, leaving behind stories of restored health and renewed faith. Yet, organisers say the real work is only just beginning.

Addressing beneficiaries and supporters at the close of the outreach, coordinators passionately appealed for more donors, logistical backing, moral encouragement and financial support to enable the Centre provide permanent shelter for persons living with disabilities and other vulnerable members of society.

They expressed deep appreciation to several prominent Nigerians who contributed resources to make the outreach a success.

Among those commended were Chief, Sir Anselm Okafor, Supreme Commander General of Knights of Saint John’s International; Chief, Sir M.E.A. Nwakalor (Omelora Ndigbo); Chief Lawrence Ojemeni (Lento); Distinguished Senator Dr Victor Umeh; Chief Valentine Ozigbo of VCO Foundation; and Chief Dr Allen Onyeama.

According to the organisers, these individuals demonstrated uncommon charity and compassion towards the less privileged.

They prayerfully urged them to extend their generosity to the Centre’s ongoing Free Lenten Succour Programme and the proposed construction of a permanent shelter within the Anambra Ecumenical Centre in Aguleri.

The group also made a direct appeal to the Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles C. Soludo, to partner with the Centre by supporting the maintenance of roads and infrastructure around the facility.

They further called on the Governor to consider bringing Chief Sir Anselm Okafor into his administration, citing his previous role as Senior Special Assistant on Religious Matters to former governors Peter Obi and Willie Obiano.

Organisers argued that during Chief Okafor’s tenure, government-sponsored prayer summits across the state contributed to relative peace and stability.

They recalled that the period also attracted engagement from the Israeli government, including a high-level security conference that, they claimed, helped sustain security efforts throughout the Obiano administration.

With insecurity worsening in Anambra and across the South-East, the Centre stressed the need for renewed spiritual and strategic collaboration.

They urged Governor Soludo to be a listening leader, expressing hope that divine guidance would elevate his leadership further.

As the outreach ends, the message from Aguleri is clear: healing bodies is vital, but protecting lives through shelter, compassion and collective responsibility is even more urgent.
