Unity, Morale Drive Military Success – Ex-Air Chief Tells NAF At BASA 2025

In a military facing complex security threats, cohesion off the battlefield can be just as decisive as strategy on it.

That message took centre stage in Abuja as the former Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao (Rtd.), called on Nigerian Air Force personnel to keep unity and morale at the heart of operational success.

Speaking at the Base Social Activities (BASA) 2025 on 7 February, Amao described the event as more than a celebration, saying it strengthens cohesion among personnel drawn from Nigeria’s diverse backgrounds.

He praised the leadership of the current Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, noting that BASA has evolved into a platform that reinforces esprit de corps and operational excellence.

Amao said the colourful cultural displays at the event reflected a nation united in service, adding that shared experiences help build trust and the psychological resilience required for demanding missions.

He also commended the Air Force’s operational performance in 2025 across multiple theatres, linking its effectiveness to the morale and unity nurtured through initiatives like BASA.

Earlier, the Commander, Base Services Group, Abuja, Air Commodore IE Imoke, said BASA 2025 was designed to deepen camaraderie, promote welfare and renew commitment to the Service’s mission among personnel and their families.

The event ended on a note of optimism, reinforcing the message that a united force remains a strong force.
