FRSC Debunks ‘30 Deaths’ Claim In Kano Crash, Confirms Seven Fatalities
In moments of tragedy, misinformation spreads fast and can deepen public fear.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has now set the record straight on the fatal road crash in Kano State, correcting exaggerated reports that claimed 30 lives were lost.
The Corps confirmed that seven adult males died in the crash that occurred on Sunday, 8 February 2026, along Hadejia Road at Kwanar Danja in the Gezawa Local
Government Area of Kano State, at about 8:33am.
The incident involved a commercial DAF trailer (registration number KTG467YG) that was conveying 105 passengers.
According to FRSC, 70 persons (55 adult males and 15 male children) sustained varying degrees of injuries, while 30 victims were rescued unhurt by emergency responders.
The Corps said the figures were established through on-the-spot assessment and verified rescue operations, urging the media and the public to rely only on officially confirmed information to avoid misinformation and unnecessary panic.
Preliminary investigations attributed the crash to speed violation leading to loss of control (SPV/LOC).
Reacting to the incident, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, warned that speeding remains one of the deadliest traffic offences, noting that excessive speed reduces reaction time and turns vehicles into “lethal weapons” capable of wiping out families in seconds. He stressed that no journey is worth the loss of innocent lives.
The FRSC assured Nigerians that enforcement against speed violations will be intensified nationwide, calling especially on commercial drivers to obey speed limits and prioritise safety over haste.
