CLO Hails ACP Nzota As ‘Stabilising Force’ In Onitsha Market Protest
At a time when public protests often spiral into tension and disorder, the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) in Anambra State says calm leadership made the difference during the recent closure of Onitsha Main Market.
In a statement issued in Awka, the rights group praised ACP Chidi Nzota, Onitsha Police Area Commander, for what it described as an exceptional display of professionalism and emotional intelligence in managing traders’ protests over the market shutdown.
According to the CLO, Nzota’s hands-on and conciliatory approach, including accompanying protesters and engaging them directly, helped to de-escalate tensions and restore calm.
The group said his “fatherly presence” earned him the trust of traders and prevented the protest from turning violent.
The organisation urged other officers of the Nigeria Police Force to emulate Nzota’s leadership style, while calling on the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission to consider him for promotion.
It also recommended him for a special meritorious award by the Anambra State Government in recognition of what it described as his selfless service.
