Pride For Anambra: Soludo Hails Rising Youth Interest In Police Cadet Scheme

In a state once reluctant about careers in law enforcement, a quiet but significant shift is taking place among Anambra youths, one that Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo says deserves celebration.

The Governor has commended the growing number of young people from Anambra State enlisting into the Nigeria Police Force through the cadet scheme, describing the development as a source of pride for the state.

Soludo spoke on Thursday in Awka during the official handover of 30 operational vehicles donated by the Anambra State Government to the Nigeria Police Force.

The event also witnessed the formal presentation of newly commissioned Police Cadet Officers of Anambra origin by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu.

Addressing the cadets, the Governor praised their courage and sense of duty, noting that there was a time when joining security agencies was discouraged among youths in the state, a mindset he said is now changing.

“It gives me great joy to see young Ndi Anambra proudly joining the Police Force. You have chosen a noble profession and a path of national service,” Soludo said.

He urged the cadet officers to see themselves as future leaders of the Force, expressing confidence that Anambra indigenes would rise to the highest ranks of policing in Nigeria.

“This Police Force is yours. Among you are future Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners who will shape the future of law enforcement in this country,” he added.

Earlier, CP Ikioye Orutugu described the commissioning as unprecedented, revealing that the number of Anambra indigenes recently admitted as cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police far exceeds figures recorded during his own cadet days, underscoring renewed youth interest in national service.

The development, observers say, signals a positive shift in youth engagement and public service orientation in Anambra State.
