Soludo Demands Probe As Three Anambra Brothers Killed In Lagos Fire Are Laid To Rest

What should have been a season of joy has turned into a painful reminder of how quickly lives can be lost to preventable tragedies.

As grief grips a family and an entire community, questions are now being asked about safety and accountability.

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has expressed profound sorrow over the death of three brothers from the state who perished in a fire outbreak in Lagos State, even as burial rites for the victims commence.

The brothers, Steve Onyeka Omatu (40), Casmir Nnabuike Omatu (39), and Collins Kenechukwu Omatu (37), lost their lives in a devastating inferno at the Great Nigeria Insurance House on Martins Street, Lagos Island, on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2025.

They were members of the Omatu family from Uzoakwa Community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State and are scheduled to be laid to rest on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at their family compound in Umuarugwu, Uzoakwa.

In a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Governor Soludo described the incident as heartbreaking, noting that it has plunged not just the family but the entire state into mourning.

He lamented that the young men, described as hardworking and enterprising, were cut down while striving to earn a decent living.

Soludo commiserated with all families affected by the inferno and praised emergency responders, including LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire Service, for their swift intervention.

He also urged Nigerians, particularly Anambra residents living outside the state, to prioritise personal safety over property during fire incidents.

Importantly, the Governor called on relevant authorities to carry out a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire and ensure stronger safety measures to prevent a recurrence of such tragedies.

He prayed for divine strength for the bereaved family and for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed.
