NAF Activates Swift Recovery After UAV Link Loss During Counter-Insurgency Mission
In modern warfare, technology is a force multiplier, but readiness and rapid response remain the true measure of operational strength.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), has confirmed the successful coordination of response and recovery efforts following a temporary loss of link with one of its unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) during a routine counter-insurgency operation.
According to a statement from the Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force Headquarters Abuja, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the UAV was deployed on Friday, 2 January 2026, within the Operation FASAN YAMMA Sector 3 area when communication with the platform was lost.
He said despite efforts to restore the link, standard emergency return-to-base procedures were immediately activated, alongside coordinated response measures involving sister security services and relevant authorities.
The Air Force disclosed that the UAV has since been contained, with recovery and technical assessment activities progressing as planned.
Specialist teams have secured the platform and commenced preliminary evaluations in line with established safety and operational protocols.
The NAF emphasised that there was no loss of life and that operations across all theatres remain ongoing and unaffected.
It reassured Nigerians of its professionalism and unwavering commitment to sustaining counter-insurgency operations in defence of national security.
