The latest recovery underscores how timely intelligence and swift military response are frustrating the activities of bandits, while highlighting the growing importance of community collaboration in tackling insecurity across Nigeria’s North-West.
Troops of 17 Brigade, Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled a major livestock rustling operation and recovered scores of stolen animals during a counter-terrorism mission in Katsina State.
The operation, carried out on 30 June in collaboration with the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, followed a distress call from residents who reported armed terrorists moving stolen livestock around Kaddanya village in Charanchi Local Government Area.
Acting on credible intelligence, the joint security team laid an ambush at Sabari Reraya village, where they intercepted the fleeing criminals.
The troops engaged the bandits with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon the rustled animals and flee into the surrounding bush.
Military sources said the recovered livestock have been secured, while efforts are underway to identify their rightful owners for immediate handover.
The military described the operation as another major success under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, reaffirming its commitment to denying terrorists and bandits freedom of movement.
It also praised residents and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps for providing timely intelligence, describing community support as critical to sustaining security gains across the North-West.
