FG Hails Amupitan As UNIJOS Names INEC Chair ‘Great Ambassador’
When a nation’s electoral umpire earns applause beyond the polling booth, it signals recognition of service that transcends office.
The Federal Government has congratulated the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, on his conferment with the prestigious “Great Ambassador of the University of Jos” award, describing it as a fitting reward for a lifetime of scholarship, leadership and national service.
In a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the honour was praised as a validation of Amupitan’s sterling public service and his contributions to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
The award was presented during the University of Jos’ 50th Alumni Anniversary and combined 35th and 36th Convocation Ceremony in Jos.
Akume noted that Amupitan’s leadership at INEC has been marked by professionalism, accountability and a sustained drive to reinforce public confidence in the electoral process, adding that his influence has earned respect both at home and internationally.
A proud alumnus of the University of Jos, Amupitan obtained all his law degrees from the institution and rose to become a Professor of Law.
Beyond INEC, he is recognised as one of Nigeria’s leading legal scholars, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and an accomplished academic administrator.
The “Great Ambassador” award is one of UNIJOS’ highest honours, reserved for alumni who exemplify excellence, integrity and service.
