EEDC Blames Power Supply Drop On Low Generation Capacity

Electricity users across the South-East are once again feeling the strain of Nigeria’s fragile power system, as generation shortfalls ripple through the grid.
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc (EEDC) has blamed the recent decline in electricity supply across the South-East on reduced power generation capacity caused largely by gas supply constraints affecting power generation companies.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, EEDC’s Group Head of Corporate Communications, Mr Emeka Eze, explained that the challenges led to low system frequency on the national grid, forcing the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to implement load shedding to maintain grid stability.
He said the development has significantly reduced the volume of electricity allocated to EEDC, affecting supply to customers across its franchise areas operated by MainPower, TransPower, FirstPower, NewEra and EastLand.
According to Eze, stakeholders in the electricity value chain are working to resolve the gas supply issues hampering generation, with the aim of stabilising the grid and restoring normal power supply as soon as possible.
EEDC apologised to customers for the inconvenience and appealed for patience and understanding while efforts to improve the situation continue.
