FG Targets Grid Stability With Fresh Investment To Improve Power Supply

Nigeria’s unreliable electricity supply remains one of the biggest obstacles to economic growth and everyday life, with recurring national grid failures disrupting homes and businesses.

In a renewed effort to tackle the problem, the Federal Government has pledged fresh investment to strengthen the national grid and deliver more reliable electricity to Nigerians.

Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, said the government was shifting from temporary fixes to long-term reforms, stressing that a stable transmission network was essential to improving power generation and distribution.

To drive the initiative, the Ministry has set up a Technical Working Committee on Grid Stabilisation to work with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO).

The committee will address ageing infrastructure, transmission bottlenecks and frequent system collapses while identifying priority areas for intervention.

According to the Ministry, the investment will reinforce critical transmission corridors, expand grid redundancy and modernise monitoring and control systems to reduce outages.

Acknowledging public scepticism over previous promises, Tegbe said the administration would be judged by results rather than rhetoric, adding that progress on the grid stabilisation programme would be regularly communicated to Nigerians.
