NAF, NNPC Strengthen Security Alliance To Protect Nigeria’s Energy Backbone
In a period when Nigeria’s economic recovery hinges heavily on the stability of its energy sector, two of the nation’s most strategic institutions, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, are deepening ties to safeguard vital oil and gas infrastructure.
The renewed commitment was cemented during a courtesy visit by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, to NNPC Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr Bashir Bayo Ojulari, at the corporation’s headquarters in Abuja on 25 November, 2025
Air Marshal Aneke emphasised that protecting pipelines, flow stations, offshore platforms, and other strategic assets is crucial to enhancing national resilience and minimising revenue losses.
He noted that the NAF, working alongside other security agencies, has already contributed to a significant drop in oil theft, but said further gains depend on enhanced coordination and technology-driven operations.
He revealed that the Force is scaling up its intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities to ensure faster threat detection and more decisive responses to criminal networks targeting the country’s energy corridor.
The CAS also highlighted the importance of NAF’s expanding maritime security presence in safeguarding territorial integrity and supporting uninterrupted energy production.
Responding, Engr Ojulari praised the Air Force for its unwavering dedication to national security and described the strengthened partnership as timely, especially under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He affirmed that closer collaboration, through intelligence sharing, joint planning and technological upgrades, would boost energy security and ensure a safer environment for operators across the sector.
Air Marshal Aneke assured NNPC that the NAF will remain a dependable partner in countering threats posed by vandals, insurgents and other criminal elements, adding that the alliance will ultimately reinforce Nigeria’s economic growth and development.
