Defence Headquarters Debunks Fake Video Allegedly Attributed To CDS Oluyede

At a time when misinformation spreads with unprecedented speed, Nigeria’s military authorities are once again urging the public to remain vigilant as digital manipulation becomes more sophisticated and disruptive.

The Defence Headquarters has dismissed a viral video falsely claiming that the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General OO Oluyede, announced plans to forcefully recruit Nigerians aged 18 and above into the Armed Forces.

The video, which features a cloned image of the CDS, was described as “malicious” and aimed at tarnishing his reputation while casting the military in a negative light.

According to a statement issued by Brigadier General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, neither the CDS nor any Service Chief—or indeed any member of the Armed Forces—made such a statement.

He emphasised that the military remains a voluntary and noble profession that continues to attract thousands of willing applicants across its three branches.

The Defence Headquarters warned that the rise of Artificial Intelligence has made it easier for bad actors to create deceptive content, stressing the need for the public to verify the authenticity of videos and statements before sharing them.

Nigerians were advised to rely solely on official Defence Headquarters spokespersons and verified social media channels for credible information, and to disregard the fake video currently in circulation.
