COAS Charges RSMs To Uphold Discipline, Professionalism At Nigerian Army Convention In Enugu
Strong institutions thrive on discipline and leadership, and for the Nigerian Army, these values remain non-negotiable.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has called on Regimental Sergeants Major (RSMs) across all formations to sustain high standards of discipline, leadership, and professionalism within the Nigerian Army.
Speaking in Enugu at the closing of the 2nd RSM Convention 2025, themed “RSM Roles in Operational Readiness and Combat Effectiveness,”
Lt.-Gen. Shaibu described the event as a defining milestone and his first official engagement since assuming office.
He commended the RSMs for their dedication and robust contributions during the four-day deliberations, noting that their role as custodians of regimentation and discipline remains crucial to the Army’s operational efficiency.
“The leadership and mentorship standards you demonstrate greatly shape and define the ideals of professionalism that our soldiers embrace as the true meaning of soldiering,” the COAS stated.
He urged the participants to return to their formations with renewed commitment to nurturing disciplined, combat-ready troops, adding that lessons from the convention must reflect in improved readiness and morale.
The COAS also lauded the Chief of Administration (Army), Maj.-Gen. Isa Abdullahi and the organising committee for a well-coordinated event, and expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support of the Nigerian Army.
Earlier, Maj.-Gen. Abdullahi commended the RSMs for their steadfastness, describing the convention as historic for including participants from sister services and security agencies, a step towards stronger joint operations.
He urged participants to apply the lessons learned to strengthen leadership and reinforce the Army’s core values of loyalty, discipline, and selfless service.
