Army Shake-Up: Major General Philip Ilodibia Among 67 Generals Redeployed As Tinubu Demands Results, Not Excuses
In a sweeping move aimed at boosting efficiency and strengthening leadership within Nigeria’s military architecture, the Nigerian Army has redeployed 67 senior officers, a development described as part of ongoing efforts to reposition the force for greater operational effectiveness.
Among those affected is Major General Philip Ilodibia, who now takes charge as Chief of Defence Space Administration, a strategic appointment that underscores the Army’s focus on leveraging modern technology and cyber capabilities in national defence.
Announcing the development, Army spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele said the postings, approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, cut across formations, corps, and training institutions.
The shake-up, she explained, is designed to “reinvigorate leadership and strengthen command structures.”
Other key appointments include Major General Bamidele Alabi as Chief of Policy and Plans (Army); Major General Jamal Abdulsalam as Chief of Defence Operations; and Major General Peter Mala as Commander, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC).
At the field level, Major General Oluremi Fadairo takes over as General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Enugu, and Commander of Joint Task Force South East, while Major General Saidu Audu assumes command of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in N’Djamena, Chad.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Shaibu, urged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them through professionalism, discipline, and measurable results, echoing President Bola Tinubu’s recent charge that Nigerians want “results, not excuses.”
He emphasised the need for renewed synergy among the armed forces and other security agencies to confront emerging threats with precision, innovation, and unity of purpose.
The redeployment marks one of the most extensive reorganisations within the Nigerian Army in recent years — a clear signal that the military is recalibrating to meet the country’s evolving security challenges head-on.
