Ukraine Launches Fundraising In Nigeria To Deploy Life-Saving Robots for Wounded Soldiers

As the Russia-Ukraine war rages on, technology is emerging as a lifeline for survival.

To save wounded soldiers trapped on the frontlines, the Embassy of Ukraine in Nigeria has launched a charity fundraising campaign to support the development of “Allies of Steel”, ground robots designed to evacuate the injured, deliver supplies, and clear mines in dangerous combat zones.

Speaking at the fundraising and the premiere of the film “Bucha” in Abuja, Ukrainian Ambassador to Nigeria, Ivan Kholostenko, said the robots are already saving lives daily and symbolise hope amid devastation.

He urged friends of Ukraine and peace-loving nations to contribute, noting that “even one dollar can help save a Ukrainian defender’s life.”

Ambassador Kholostenko described the initiative as a bridge of solidarity between Ukraine and Africa, stressing that both regions share common struggles and aspirations for peace and freedom.

It was the evening of sorts which marked the first screening of “Bucha” in West Africa, a film depicting the resilience of Ukrainians amid atrocities committed during Russia’s invasion.

He said, “Bucha is not only a story of horror but of humanity and hope. Sadly, the same neo-imperialism threatening Ukraine also fuels instability in parts of Africa.”

In his remarks, the newly appointed Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Lagos, Michel Fadi Issa, reaffirmed solidarity with Ukraine’s fight for sovereignty, saying its courage should inspire global unity in defending liberty and peace.
