NAWOJ Honours Media Icon Raymond Dokpesi, Urges Ethical Communication For National Development

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has joined voices in celebrating the enduring legacy of the late High Chief Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi, describing him as a visionary who revolutionised Nigeria’s media landscape and gave power to the people through information.

At the second annual lecture held in his honour at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre, Abuja, organised by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and DAAR Communications, the NAWOJ National President, Aishatu Ibrahim, hailed the founder of Africa Independent Television (AIT) as “a bridge-builder who used communication to democratise knowledge and amplify the voices of the voiceless.”

She stressed that communication remains “the heartbeat of progress and the soul of democracy,” reaffirming NAWOJ’s commitment to promoting women’s inclusion and integrity in leadership.

Themed “Communication and Development,” the lecture featured the Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, who announced funding approval for the proposed NIPR University, a move he said would help nurture ethical and visionary leaders.

Other dignitaries at the event included former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole; NIPR President, Dr Ike Neliaku; and Raymond Dokpesi Jr., Chairman of DAAR Communications, who urged that communication be treated as a strategic national asset.

The gathering, attended by media leaders and past NAWOJ presidents, was a powerful reminder of Dokpesi’s unmatched contributions to democracy, media development, and nation-building.
