Anambra CP Strengthens Peace-Building Efforts Ahead Of Governorship Election

As Anambra gears up for the forthcoming governorship election, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has intensified peace-building engagements to ensure a violence-free poll.

Continuing his statewide advocacy tour, the Police Commissioner on 25th October 2025 visited the Ogidi Area Command and paid a courtesy call on the traditional ruler of Ogidi, Igwe Uzo Alexander Onyido, where discussions centred on sustaining peace and community vigilance during the election period.

CP Orutugu highlighted the pivotal role of traditional rulers in promoting moral leadership and discouraging youth involvement in political thuggery.

He urged community leaders to mobilise residents for peaceful participation and to promptly report suspicious activities that could threaten security before, during, or after the election.

In his response, Igwe Onyido commended the Commissioner’s proactive approach and pledged the Palace’s full cooperation.

He also appealed to youths, political actors, and community members to shun violence and protect the peace of Ogidi and its environs.

The Commissioner also held a closed-door meeting with Divisional Police Officers and later addressed officers and men of the Ogidi Area Command Headquarters, reiterating that the Nigeria Police Force remains professional and non-partisan.

He stressed that the Police’s primary duty is to secure the electoral space, safeguard citizens’ rights, and ensure that the will of the people prevails.

During an interactive session with local government officials, vigilante operatives, community leaders, and the Police Community Relations Committee, stakeholders commended the Command’s sustained engagement and pledged to strengthen intelligence sharing for peaceful elections.

CP Orutugu assured Ndi Anambra of adequate deployment, surveillance, and rapid response measures to maintain law and order across all local government areas as the polls approach, urging citizens to remain peaceful and united in safeguarding the state’s stability.
