Nigeria Deepens Global Alliances To Tackle False Narratives, Boost National Image
Nigeria is intensifying efforts to reshape global perceptions and counter false narratives damaging its reputation, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said.
Speaking in London at the UK Edition of the Renewed Hope Global Dialogue with the theme “Strengthening Global Partnerships for Economic Renewal and National Rebranding,”
Idris said the Federal Government is building strategic partnerships to project a more accurate and credible image of the country on the world stage.
The Minister lamented ongoing disinformation campaigns that falsely allege state-sponsored religious persecution, describing them as malicious and misleading.
He emphasised that Nigeria requires global allies who understand the nation’s diversity and can help amplify its authentic narrative.
Highlighting efforts toward national rebranding, Idris announced the launch of the Nigeria Reputation Management Group (NRMG), a collaboration between the Ministry and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) aimed at strengthening national pride and enhancing the country’s global reputation.
He also revealed that October 15 has been designated as Nigeria Reputation Day and that Abuja will host both the 2026 African Public Relations Association Conference and the World Public Relations Forum, marking the first time for any African country.
Idris further cited recent diplomatic milestones, including Nigeria’s admission as a BRICS partner country, election of Nigerians into top global energy positions, and the country’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Grey List, as evidence of growing international confidence in the Tinubu administration.
He reiterated that the government’s reforms, from the unified exchange rate to student loans, consumer credit schemes, and new development commissions, are positioning Nigeria as a rising economic force.
“Nigeria is reclaiming lost ground both at home and abroad,” Idris said. “We are a listening, engaging government, open to partnerships that will help accelerate our transformation.”
